Crossfit – Get in Shape and Have FUN!

People’s attitude towards fitness tends to go in cycles. There are periods of great enthusiasm where getting into shape is a primary goal. Then there are periods where fitness just isn’t a top priority. I think a major reason that people get turned off by exercise programs or quit for a while is due to boredom. Many exercise programs just are not that exciting. Running on the treadmill every day gets old!

Crossfit takes a unique approach to fitness that creates exciting workouts by throwing a unique workout at you on a day to day basis. Every day Crossfit (http://www.crossfit.com/) posts a WOD or workout of the day. These workouts are unique and fresh and typically don’t last over 30 minutes. Some of the workouts are quite demanding, but they can be scaled depending on your skill level.

Sample workouts include:

Cindy“
Complete as many rounds in 20 minutes as you can of:
5 Pull-ups
10 Push-ups
15 Squats

Or

Run 5K

Or

Three rounds of:
225 Deadlift, 15 reps
15 Handstand push-ups
15 Pull-ups
95-pound Thruster, 15 reps

They vary in intensity but the Crossfit website includes detailed descriptions and videos in case you are unsure of how to perform any exercise. Crossfit names some of the workouts that they use over again, i.e. “Cindy” above.

Crossfit takes a unique approach to getting in shape which is a generalization. Said another way their specialty is not specializing. Their workouts are posted every day and each workout is geared toward developing some or all of the following components: Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina, Strength, Flexibility, Power, Speed, Coordination, Agility, Balance, and Accuracy. These workouts will continue to challenge anyone and everyone for as long as they stay motivated; with Crossfit motivation comes easy because the workouts are unique every day and best of all they are posted for FREE! It literally costs no money to start using the program.

Now you may be wondering, is Crossfit for me? Well let me tell you, Crossfit is for everyone. The great thing about Crossfit is that the workouts can be scaled for beginners or worked as-is for experts. Take the last workout listed above. You are to do this workout as fast as you possibly can for three rounds. Now this workout is very tough as posted and will beat even someone who is incredibly fit into pulp. However, a beginner can take this exact format and maybe just change the weight of the deadlift, to less poundage and substitute regular push-ups, for handstand push-ups. Crossfit even has links to sites that will scale the workouts for you if you are a beginner.

Men and women alike CAN and ARE participating in this program and are in incredibly great shape because of it. Military personnel, law enforcement agents, MMA fighters as well as average citizens all use and benefit from Crossfit by getting into great shape. Often women may be hesitant to use Crossfit and wonder if it is for them. The truth is many women are using Crossfit and are achieving incredibly slim and tight bodies as a result.

Overall Crossfit is a great way to get in shape and have fun doing it.
